    Viewing the install of the new lighting at South

    South School A-Pod Lighting: Phase I has been completed. All light fixtures were replaced with new LED lighting in every classroom. Bringing 4,000 kelvins for each fixture creating a brighter and more inviting atmosphere for learning. Teams are currently working on Phase II in which they will assess the technical needs and replacements for the light fixtures in the small group instruction rooms and hallways.

     

    In Planning

    Roofing and HVAC: The district is working with architects and engineers to prepare for the new roofs and HVAC units at South School. Architectural drawings will be submitted to DSA in December 2024. Construction is expected to begin in the summer of 2025.

    Fire Alarm Upgrade: Our Fire Alarm System Project is currently in the design initiation phase. New systems will be installed on the South School Campus during summer 2025.

    South Preschool Relocation: The South Preschool, currently located at the HCSD District Office will move to the South School campus. The preschool will move into the former Tiger Learning Center located near the entrance of the school. The South preschool will open in this new location in August 2026. 

    New 4th and 5th Grade Classroom Buildings: The current portable classrooms housing 4th and 5th grade classrooms will be removed and new classrooms will be built in the same location. Construction is expected to begin in 2026.

    Image of South Marquee Marquee Board: A new Marquee Board was installed during the summer of 2024. The new Marquee Board is completely electronic so staff and parent volunteers are able to make changes to the messaging electronically. The Marquee Board is the same type and style that is used by the Town of Hillsborough allowing for consistency should any emergency messaging be needed across the town.   

    Classroom Technology: During the summer of 2023, SmartBoards were deployed into each classroom on the South campus. All teachers received training on using the new SmartBoards and implementation is taking place across all classrooms. Smartboard within a classroom

    Painting: During the summer of 2023, the exterior of the South School campus was painted. Paint colors were chosen with the input of students, staff and parents.

    UPS Upgrades: The District replaced its Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems with network technology to provide critical power backup for each site to keep the network functioning and allow it to safely be powered down despite power failures.
