• Character Team is made up of a group of 5th grade students who write, collaborate, and perform skits based on current/observed social emotional needs. Groups are chosen through a lottery system and students are given two opportunities to sign up—once for the Fall team and once for the Spring team. Both teams have three assemblies each and are performed in front of the entire school. Practices are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00 – 12:40. Due to the limited amount of time attendance is important on those days. Character Team students are asked to be models for good character on and off the stage and are considered leaders at our school. Character Team is a great opportunity for our students to be creative, relate to current social needs, and lead by example.

    Assemblies

Character Team Assemblies are 30 minutes long and are comprised of skits, songs, and/or dances. During the Assemblies, Bucket Filler awards are passed out intermittently between skits. It is only fitting that our character team assist with announcing and dispersing the Bucket Filler awards since they directly relate to when students show acts of kindness/good character.

    Skits

Skits are created by the students for the students. Prior to each assembly Character Team discusses what they have observed to be current social emotional needs here at North School. Concerns can be in the classroom, on the playground, or even with family. We give students the opportunity to create scripts that are all their own. Skits are then rehearsed and performed at the assemblies.
